A Video Tour of the New Clif Bar Headquarters: Part 1

Back in October, we introduced you to Clif Bar & Company’s brand new headquarters. After close to 15 years in Berkeley, we’ve moved into a new energy-efficient headquarters in Emeryville, California.

Sure, we’re incredibly biased, but the new building is truly amazing. A 115,000 square-foot features the latest in solar technology, a new on-site childcare center, repurposed materials—from shipping-container wood to blue jeans—and a 40-foot bouldering wall are just some of the features that support Clif Bar‘s sustainability mission and unique company culture.

We promised to give you a closer look inside the new Clif Bar office space, and here it is—the first of a five-part video series through the new Clif HQ with your tour guide, Clif Bar President and COO Kevin Cleary.

Training in the Spaces in Between

Many athletes know the frustration of balancing real-life responsibility with the need to train and compete. As life gets busier and spare time becomes an invaluable commodity, we often have to make some tough choices to maintain a workable home life while retaining a semblance of our past fitness.

Do you spend your one or two days off each week with your kids? Or do you go out and get the four-hour training ride you need in the bank so you can hang in next week’s local crit?

You can mull those two options, or you can get super-creative and have it both ways.

CLIF SHOT Brand Manager Chris Randall has had a lot on his plate recently: whether its traveling to events, executing a complete revamp of CLIF SHOT Energy Gel, finishing up Clif Bar & Company 2011 planning or working on a few more “classified” projects, finding time to do anything but work had become a challenge.

The Story Behind the Jersey: Limited Edition CLIF Cycling Jersey, Honoring the Late Clif Erickson

Way back in 1990, I went on a 175-mile bike ride with my buddy, Jay. In preparation for the ride, we packed six energy bars for the ride—the only energy bar on the market at the time. At mile-120 we made it to the top of Mt. Hamilton, but we realized that we still had a lot of road ahead of us. Tired and famished, I pulled the last energy bar out of my pack, but as hungry as I was, I just couldn’t bring myself to eat it. In that moment I couldn’t help but ask myself “What if energy bars were delicious?” The minute I asked the question, I realized that I could make something better—an energy bar that tasted great, was made with all-natural ingredients and that could help get me through my long rides. It was an epiphany moment and I decided to follow the inspiration.

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of that epiphany moment I had at the top of Mount Hamilton and to honor the love and support my dad gave me as I started and grew Clif Bar & Company, I designed this limited edition CLIF Cycling Jersey. I wear this jersey on my long rides knowing that my dad is still cheering me on.
