Field to Table

We’re hardly bashful here about digging into food. Anyone who’s been to Clif Bar knows that we love good food and a good time. But we’re also conscious about the bigger food picture and the importance of understanding where our food comes—including the social and environmental impacts of agriculture. For many farm workers, bringing food to our tables is no picnic. We’d like to see that change—and one way we’re doing that is by lending our support to grassroots organizations committed to creating a more healthy, just and sustainable food system through the Clif Bar Family Foundation. Our staff ecologist,…

Mr. Jones goes to Washington

In an attempt to give representatives in congress a different view of global climate change, eight-time Big Mountain Snowboarder of the Year (and Team Clif Bar athlete) Jeremy Jones traveled to Washington last week to meet with key mountain states lawmakers, screen the short film Generations, and shred the infamous Nixon Chute on Capitol Hill. OK, there’s not really a chute on Capitol Hill, but if there were, Jeremy could shred it. Regardless, Jeremy, along with Chris Steinkamp, Executive Director of Protect Our Winters, Steve Jones, founder of Teton Gravity Research, and Clif Bar’s very own Director of Environmental…

Hula Hooping + Taco Truck + Environment?

A few weeks ago we hosted a little party at Clif Bar & Company to benefit the Access Fund—the Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival. It was an evening of controlled chaos. To start with, we had Timmy O’Neill—legendary climber, filmmaker, drummer, passion monger and rabble rouser—emceeing the event. And because we love a small dose of healthy competition, we had Ro-Sham-Bo… and Foos Ball… and lots of prizes. Oh, and of course, a taco truck to keep us energized. Anyhoo, the purpose of the night was to raise awareness and funds for our long-time partner, the Access Fund through…

That’s a Wrap

Take a hard look at this here tote. Notice anything unusual? Aside from the fact that it’s the perfect size to fit, say, munchies from your latest trip to the grocery store or goods from your holiday shopping spree, it’s made from repurposed CLIF wrappers. Our friends over at TerraCycle started an eco-revolution, taking a range of non-recyclable waste materials and turning them into eco-friendly products. And so, we joined forces to help reduce the number of energy bar wrappers ending up in the landfill. They’ve created a whole slew of products made from our wrappers. Stylie (and scrumptious) totes,…

Feeling Green, Feeling Good

Just when the challenge of global warming starts to feel a bit overwhelming, the annual Green Festival comes around as it did again this past weekend in San Francisco. Some 45,000 people—including a friend, my brother and me—dropped by the Green Festival to immerse ourselves in a sea of sustainability, social justice, workshops, music, food and fun. Clif Bar, as we have for years, had a booth where attendees could sample some of our goodies. The festival draws a wonderfully diverse crowd—young, old, urban, suburban, singles and families—all of whom care about green issues and living a more eco-conscious life.…
