Out with the old…

The problem with all of this sustainability business for me is that I can’t look at anything, anywhere without thinking about what kind of impact it had, has or will have on the earth. That’s one of the reasons I kept my cell phone for nearly four years! Everywhere I went, people laughed and were shocked and they told me to get rid of it because it was big; so ugly; because it didn’t flip or have a camera…what happened to making calls and receiving them? Yes, I know I could have recycled it, but as you can imagine, it…

Bike to Work Day

Today is Bike to Work Day and we thought we’d take advantage of it. We set a slightly lofty goal—get 75 folks from the office commuting in on a bike (or carpooling, or walking). If you didn’t get a chance to bike to work today, here’s a virtual bike to work day series from my trip in this morning with Tara… We met up in the city. They’ve been slingshot-ted

Over the last few months, the Project Slingshot inbox has been filling with applications. Young folks determined to make more than just a dent in the fight against global warming sent us their words of wisdom. Artists, innovators and outdoor fanatics spilled the beans on how they planned to make an impact. After much toiling and discussion amongst our illustrious judging panel (Eric Larsen, Denis Hayes, Rocky Anderson, Judith Helfand, Jeremy Jones, Adam Gardner and Billy Parish), we're proud to announce the three lucky and talented winners (and a brief description of their grant-winning projects): Maya Donelson—Graze the Roof, San…

Earth Day Reflections from Dean

It's April 22nd, and you know what that means? Earth Day! This last weekend, there were so many different celebrations happening around town, it's only natural that we have an entry documenting the festivities—and what better town to feature than Berkeley itself? Dean, our trusty PR guy and enviro guru shares a little something from the weekend. For the first time in years, I thought I'd check out an official Earth Day celebration, what with global climate change putting the environment back on front pages. So I dropped in this past weekend on Berkeley's Earth Day celebration, likely the largest…
