Snowboarding in June?!?

It's June and it's really hot here in Berkeley, CA. But apparently, a few weeks ago, the mountains in the high country got their fair share of summer snow—surprise! Jeremy Jones, TCB athlete hooked up with Mike and Marty McFry (yup, the Save Our Snow crew) to take advantage of the fresh powder and do a little sledding down the Moon Collier, up near South Lake Tahoe... Looks like if we really put our minds to it, the final, final leg of the SOS tour really can happen in Summer. Take a peek at Jeremy's website and read about…

Save Our Snow 2008—Mt. Hood Meadows

The last official stop on the SOS tour and a follow up to The Drive. Meadows has been my home mountain for the past six years, so ending up here on the last day of the tour felt like a homecoming finale for me. It was great to be back at a mountain where i actually knew where i was going and how to get to some of the secret spots. With a posse of friends, we made our way up Mt Hood express, over to Hood River express and off into the private reserve. This is a chunk of…

Save Our Snow 2008—Mt Hood, Oregon: The Drive

Mike, Marty McFry and Ben start their final journey on the 2008 road trip. At five thirty in the morning, myself and Marty McFry rolled up to Ben's house, ready to embark on the final weekend of the SOS tour. Surprisingly, Ben was not only awake, but also standing in his driveway, in the rain. Neither myself nor Ben are really much of morning people, so i was impressed to see he was off to an early start. Soon i found out, it wasn't that Ben was up early, but that he hadn't slept yet and was technically up late.…

Save Our Snow 2008—Snoqualmie and Stevens Pass

Low and behold...more goodness from Mike and the Save Our Snow Road Trip. It's still winter in a lot of other parts of the country and the SOS crew is experiencing it in full force. Snoqualmie You know that feeling where you drive up to a ski area late at night, sleep in a comfortable bed in the back of your vegetable oil-powered motor home and then wake up, light a Java-Log in your wood-burning stove and cook breakfast on it...in a cast iron skillet? No? Well, it's a great feeling and I highly recommend it. This is the way…

Save Our Snow 2008—Funnest Day ever

I declare this day to be the funnest day in the history of the SOS tour. Let me start with the night before... We had a delicious dinner with Peter and the NorCal Clif Bar crew at a Mexican restaurant. We then hit the bars with the posse and finally retired to a spacious cabin with a hot tub on the porch. The previous night I had slept on the counter, in the RV with my feet in the sink. So these new accommodations were not just a step-up, but a magic-carpet-ride-to-the-top-of-the-mountain-up. Well rested and ready for anything, we made…
