LUNA on Tour with Lilith

For the next two months, LUNA heads out on tour with Lilith Fair. In a flurry of over 30 cities in the US and Canada, Lilith features a huge group of top female artists including Sarah McLachlan, Mary J. Blige, Sheryl Crow, Kelly Clarkson, Cat Power, Erykah Badu and many more. And our very own Shannon is hitting every single stop on the tour.

Hi, I’m Shannon Mujica and I have a feeling that for the next few months I’ll be known as the “LUNA Girl”. Why, you ask? For the next eight weeks I will be on tour representing LUNA all over Canada and the US with Lilith Fair—a celebration of women in music—that officially kicks off this Sunday, June 27 in Calgary!

Lilith Fair

I am overjoyed to have this opportunity to share the road with some of the best female musicians in the world, give out delicious samples of LUNA Bars and share in the sisterhood that was born of common interests in lifestyle, balance, strength, environment, community and support toward one another. I’m also extremely happy to spread the word about what nourishment means in a “whole-life” way.

Deep Fried CLIF BAR

Many of you may have been introduced to Southern California’s Conejo Valley by way of the Tour of California. As you may recall, the area provided the hilly landscape that produced the most epic and action-packed stage of the race.

Well, the fellas from the Agoura Hills-based racing team Fast Friday have been riding that same loop on Friday afternoons for years – it’s where the team got its name. Well following last Friday’s ride, Gary, the team’s notorious leader, was invited by some friends to eat at Leila’s http://www.leilasrestaurant.com/ , one of the region’s most popular and well-regarded restaurants. The establishment is one of the Valley’s true insider’s secrets, known for its creative menu, extensive wine list and regular one-off dishes created by experienced, open-minded cooks. The kitchen folks are so open to new ideas that they didn’t even balk when Gary presented them with a request inspired, no doubt, by at least a couple glasses of vintage central coast Pinot: “Would you guys mind deep-frying this CLIF BAR and serving it up à la mode?”

Deep Fried Chocolate Chip CLIF BAR and Ice Cream

To the casual observer, this might sound like a strange request. But Gary was simply making use of the ancient Cyclist Code of Conduct, tenet #14: ‘Always carry at least one CLIF BAR on your person whenever hitting the town on someone else’s terms.’ It’s a safety net of sorts.

12 Trips of a Lifetime

The people here at Clif Bar & Company are loaded with incredible travels—seriously. And with an eight-week sabbatical awarded every seven years with the company, why wouldn’t we be? So after listening to countless tales of amazing worldly adventures, I figured it’s time to share. Here are 12 inspiring trips that will leave you yearning for a life-changing vacay of your own!

1. From Cape Town to Cairo

12 Trips of a Lifetime - Claire2

My sister and I had planned to spend the last week of our African adventure (which began in Cape Town, then routed through Kenya and Mauritius) in Madagascar where we would be lemur spotting, hiking in the national parks, catching the local transport taxi-brusses and walking down the Avenue of Baobabs. We initially convinced each other that we could simply avoid a developing military coup, sneak away to the less-populated parts of the country and continue on with our agenda. Then we heard that the U.N. was evacuating all non-essential personnel, and we discovered that all flights into the country were being diverted.

So, time for plan B. Having already spent time in Kenya, both of our curiosities peaked at a 4 a.m. scheduled departure to Cairo glowing on the international departures board, and we set off to wake up the only travel agent in the airport. Moments later our flights were purchased and, less than eight hours after that, we landed in Egypt.

The photos document a snippet of the best trip I never planned – finding the 357 bus after a crash course in Arabic numerals, navigating Cairo’s vibrant street markets, sampling Egyptian coffee and its famous accompaniments, the obligatory camel, the majestic pyramids in Giza, marveling at the resourcefulness of Egyptian taxi repair-work, and ending up in Alexandria where the Nile meets the Mediterranean…just a little bit farther away than we had set out to travel from our starting point the month before. At the end of the day, the most amazing part of the trip was not necessarily the places we visited or the things we saw, but rather the way in which we saw them – without expectation, without a master plan – without a clue really. But sometimes the best journeys are the ones that take you for a ride.

Greasebus on the Mountain

Spring may have officially started but winter is clearly not done with us. Winter storms have rolled through the western states over the last week or so and left more snow than you can shake a shovel at. Over 2 feet in Lake Tahoe. Seattle resorts have received more than 3 feet. Check out the video from our friends at Greasebus—the veggie oil fueled ski shuttle service—that's part of Clif Bar’s Save Our Snow efforts. They were up at Stevens Pass a few weekends ago, enjoying all the fresh pow.

Goodman Makes Good News

The position of Utah crew captain for Clif Bar Field Marketing proves to be a well regarded role in the outdoor industry. In fact, George Goodman, the latest addition to Clif Bar’s Utah Field Marketing team, was featured front and center in a recent write up in Outdoor Retailer (online and in print…oh la la). Here’s a little snippet from what the publication had to say about George…and how he spends his day on the mountain. George Goodman had THE job—all mountain ambassador for Clif Bar. After all, skiing Park City’s terrain and handing out Clif bars to hungry skiers…
