- Clif Bar Honors Whistler Blackcomb Ski Resort with 2010 Golden Eagle Award
It’s that time of year again when we celebrate the end of the ski and snowboard season by heading off to somewhere sunny and warm for the Clif Bar Golden Eagle Awards. Each spring we present the ski resort industry’s environmental achievement awards during the National Ski Area Association’s annual conference, held this year in Orlando, Florida.

We presented seven total awards including the grand-daddy prize for overall environmental excellence, which went to Whistler Blackcomb (Whistler, British Columbia). Among other things, they helped develop a renewable energy project at the resort that will generate enough energy—33 gigawatt hours of hydro-electricity—to match its total annual energy consumption. You can read all about this year’s award winners here.
I realize you’re probably thinking, "That’s pretty cool, but why Florida? That’s a strange place for a ski area conference!" Yes, we realize the irony, but if you lived high in the mountains and had more than six months of winter each year, you’d want to celebrate the end of the season somewhere warm and tropical.
