CLIFcast 06 - Stage 2 17:19
Today's hilly 95-mile stage from Martinez to San Jose was a treat for all of us at Clif Bar & Co. Instead of working this morning, we loaded into busses at 9:00am and rode out to Martinez for breakfast (mimosas and bloody Mary's included), a little stunt mountain bike riding and a whole lot of cowbell ringing as the peleton rode through town off to start their day.
Unfortunately, we had to return to the office around 1:00pm, but Dylan was out on the course all day. While we ate and hung out before the start, he spoke with Jackson Stewart from Kodak Gallery/Sierra Nevada about his aggressive ride in yesterday's Stage 1 and his thoughts on the day's Stage 2
Then, Dylan moseyed up to the TIAA-CREF RV to chat with Tom Peterson and Lucas Euser, reviewing the previous day's stage and the field sprint finish.
His last conversation before the start was yesterday's Stage 1 winner, J.J. Haedo from the brand-new Toyota United Pro Team.
Next, it was showtime. Hans "No Way" Rey extreme mountain bike legend put on a show in the street, jumping up and off a 10 ft. box, riding skinny two-by-four's with control and scaring the bejeezus out of yours truly, as I lay on the street and Hans held wheelies close to my face and other important body parts. Dylan spoke with him afterwards about riding, turning 40 and the non-profit he's started, Wheels4Life.org.
Dylan ends today's podcast on the top of Sierra with some fans. It's a Category 1 climb, right near the finish, and steep as 15% in some spots. Just what I wouldn't want at the end of 90+ miles.
Sorry for the delay in publishing this podcast... I forgot my laptop's power cord last night, and ran out of juice. Better late than never!
