CLIFcast 08 - Stage 4 32:58
In this CLIFcast, Dylan and Paul share their day on Stage 4 of the Amgen Tour of California. It's the longest day of the race, and our longest podcast!
Before the race starts, the guys talk with Grady (also from CLIF) and contemplate going on a podcast strike. (What about the long hours I put in editing the audio together and putting it up here?) Thankfully, the recorded a great day's-worth over the 131 miles from Monterey to San Luis Obispo.
There's two pre-race interviews, Jens Voigt from CSC and George Hincapie from Team Discovery.
The guys hit the road, but not to follow the race. It's the saga of the lost monopod. Paul left his monopod at the hotel, which he needs to shoot photos. They set to to retrieve it.
Then, they're back to the race, meeting some fans at the top of the climb after Bixby Bridge. Hopping back in the CLIF van, they listen in on race radio, as a break takes place before the sprint line.
At the finish line, they recorded the presentation of the Clif Bar & Co. Green sprinter's jersey, and Paul talks with the presenter, mountain bike champion Marla Streb from the LUNA Professional Mountain Bike Team.
Post-race, Dylan interviews Tom Peterson of TIAA-CREF and Tony Cruz from Toyota-United.
Before leaving the race, Paul chat with a Palm executive who's playing hooky.
They end their grueling podcasting day at the self-proclaimed "world-renowned" Madonna Inn, where Dylan shares not-so-fond memories of a previous stay.
