San Francisco Bikers: Get Free Tickets to CA Academy of Sciences
San Francisco bike peoples -- the CLIF BAR 2 Mile Challenge team wants to treat you to a free day at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. And all you have to do it hop on your bike!

On Sunday, August 22, Clif Bar’s hosting what we’re calling a “Fun Ride to the Academy.” If you’re San Francisco Bay area-based, you probably know of the pure awesomeness that is the new California Academy of Sciences. So here’s the deal. We’ll give away free tickets (that's up to $24.95 per ticket!) to the first 100 people who arrive by bike.

As a bonus, those first 100 people also get their bikes parked safe and secure at a San Francisco Bicycle Coalition’s free bike valet.

And don’t think we’ll let you go hungry. Clif will sustain you on your journey through the museum with free CLIF BAR samples. Believe me, you’ll need it...the California Academy of Sciences is the only place on the planet with an aquarium, a planetarium, a natural history museum and a four-story rainforest all under one roof.

Planning on coming?
Meet us at the Academy entrance on the east side, the side farthest away from the band shell (check out this handy map). The free tickets and bike valet are available from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. And if you finish early, take a ride through Golden Gate Park. It will be closed to traffic for the Sunday Streets’ Penguins to Penguins event the same day from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. And, don’t forget to check out the CLIF BAR and CLIF Kid booths along the Great Highway where we’ll be nourishing folks with CLIF BAR and CLIF Kid product.

Need more incentive than that? You mean the wind blowing through your hair as you glide through our historic, beautiful city isn’t enough? Every mile traveled by bike instead of car prevents one pound of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere, according to the Climate Leadership Initiative at the University of Oregon. Car-generated carbon dioxide is one of the leading causes of global climate change.

Riding to the park is just the start. The CLIF BAR 2 Mile Challenge is a nationwide campaign that encourages people to ride a bike instead of driving a car for trips two miles or less to reduce carbon dioxide emissions that cause climate change. Take the 2 Mile Challenge and join one of three teams to earn points and prizes for yourself and your team by logging rides. Team leaders will help mobilize the community and people can encourage others to ride more with friendly online challenges. The website provides easy ways to log miles on-the-go and spread the word through integration with Facebook, Twitter, and web-enabled smart phones.

Each team supports a different bike advocacy or climate change non-profit, each of which will receive a $25,000 grant from Clif Bar. The team with the most points by Oct. 31, 2010, will earn an additional $25,000 Clif Bar grant. The three non-profits are the Alliance for Biking & Walking, Trips for Kids and Alliance for Climate Education.

So get pedaling, and hope to see you at the Academy!
