Tres Big Slipstream News
Congrats to the Slipstream-Chipotle Pro Cycling Team! They’ve been invited to the 2008 Tour de France. That’s a big deal.

Paris-Nice just ended and Vaughters had this to say about the race in a recent VeloNews interview.

"I feel relieved after all the work we put in. We proved we are one of the better teams in the world right from the start all the way through Tirreno, but we had a mediocre Paris-Nice, of all the friggin' races to have go sideways on us!! So of course that worried me a bit. But anyway, the bigger picture has been A+ work for a new team, so I'm glad ASO agreed with that. Off we go."

You can read Tyler Farrar's thoughts on his Paris-Nice experience on the Slipstream website.

While I think most of us following the team’s efforts had a pretty good feeling about the squad’s TdF chances it was definitely very sweet news to hear that the invite came their way.

Working with the team over the years has been quite a memorable trip. If my mediocre memory serves me correctly, we signed the first contract with the TIAA-CREF Cycling Team back in ’04. And since then we’ve had a front row seat to the team’s many very worthy achievements. Originally established as a development program sponsored by TIAA-CREF, Team Slipstream has produced more national champions than I can count on all my fingers and almost all of my toes since its inception. So obviously, there have been numerous successes in competition, but there’s more to the story…

Like a great focus on junior development efforts.

JV’s never ending quest for style.

The creation of one of the more interesting junior development cross teams out there that began with the TIAA-CREF/CLIF BAR program and has grown into the Clif Bar Development Cross Team.

And we’ve seen members of the program grow into fantastic ambassadors for the sport of cycling and beyond.

So there are so many reasons why it’s satisfying to see the Slipstream-Chipotle program achieve success at the pinnacle of the sport.

But let’s face it; we all know they probably got the TdF invite because of Steven & Dave’s sweet facial hair.

Good move guys. Very clever.

Over here at Clif we’re looking forward to seeing Argyle in France this July! Tres sweet.
