Bontrager Twentyfour12: A Unique Bike Race in Plymouth, England

Prior to this event I had never worked at a mountain bike event, however, I can safely say I hope to get to work at plenty more! The Bontrager Twentyfour12 is a unique event; it’s an endurance mountain bike race around a course of approximately 10 miles, entirely off road.

Twentyfour12 3

As the name suggests there are multiple races taking place at the same time on the same course; a 24hour race, a 12-hour one starting at midday and another 12-hour one at midnight – the Torchbearer12. It was a long drive for Craig and myself down to the race HQ in Plymouth, and with a lot of inconsistent weather throughout the drive it was making us both nervous knowing that we were having to camp for two nights.

Upon arrival it was raining heavily, however, still humid and warm. From the first sights of the venue, it was like I was at a music festival with the campsite/village split. After a while the rain stopped and the sun came out, this was our chance to set up the Clif Bar booth and our tent. The whole event had a different vibe to it than other events I’ve work or raced at before. There was a really relaxed and friendly feel to the whole race and is something I’m not used to, being a triathlete.

From Sunny Seattle to Pleasant Portland by Bike

Jessica Culnane and her Clif Bar Field Marketing Crew stoked out riders along the epic STP ride recently on a rare Northwest weekend without the need for rain gear.  Read on to find out what these wet weather natives do when the sun starts to shine.

Here in the Northwest, specifically the Pacific North West (PNW), we don’t get too many sunny days. But when we do, everyone takes full advantage of them and Clif is right there with us. Plans are changed and activities are modified just so we can all be out under that glorious golden orb in the sky. And for all those folks out there who haven’t been to the PNW, we really love to ride our bikes - for pleasure and for our mode of transportation.

Seattle to Portland by Bike 2

Case in point, if you ask any PNW native to pick out who was born and raised here vs. who is a transplant they will simply say, “that dude/chick over there riding their bike in the rain.” It’s true. We ride, we walk and we run in the rain. Rain jackets are a necessity and umbrellas are taboo.

In Pictures: The Tour de France Crowds

This just came our way from Mark Johnson who’s spending July in France with the Garmin-Cervélo squad. Mark offers a nice look at a day in the small town of Bordessoule, along the route of the 2011 Tour de France.

Until you’ve seen the crowds, it’s difficult to appreciate just how much the Tour de France is part of the fabric of French life. Here’s a peek.

Stage eight, a 117-mile run from Aigurande to Super-Besse Sancy, passes through the rolling, wooded countryside where the Loire Valley meets the mountains of the Massif Central. We roll out of our rustic hotel in Nohont—which is where one of France’s most famous writers, George Sand, wrote the bulk of her 19th-Century work—and drive down a two-lane road toward the hamlet of Bordessoule.
