Summer Solstice Stoke

Eric Porter is a guy who likes to ride bikes. In fact he likes to ride so much, that he spent his entire Summer Solstice getting after it in the mountains all around Utah.

Like many of us, Eric likes to ride all kinds of bikes and on this extra long day he put together quite the bike adventure scramble for all those crazy enough to join the fun. Check out Eric’s account from the day below, and remember that even though the Solstice has come and gone, we still have some of the longest days of summer lingering in our midst to get out and create some awesomeness of our own.

Thanks for the inspiration Eric. You’re doing it right!

June 21 is Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year and in my mind, the only logical thing to do on the longest day of the year is to ride every minute of it!  White Pine Touring in Park City has an annual Solstice ride where they ride xc all day long, which is where I got the idea. However I like to split my time between all disciplines of MTB, so I took their plan and modified it a bit.

Digging In and Going Big at UDUG 2011!

The second annual UpsideDown and UnderGround (UDUG) Bike Competition was off the hook this year! Jamie Goldman (Santa Cruz Syndicate/Team Clif Bar) worked tirelessly to ensure that his backyard creation for the UDUG2011 course was better than ever.

Huge thanks to Jamie for the inspiration to gather the tribe, share his ride zone, and encourage the evolution of a mighty fine time for all. We here at Clif can’t wait to see what next year may bring!

Garmin-Cervélo’s Paris-Roubaix Winner Reflects on California

During the busy days of the Amgen Tour of California, Mark Johnson was fortunate enough to catch up with Garmin-Cervelo rider Johan Van Summeren to hear his thoughts on the California racing and his recent victory at Paris Roubaix:

Story and photos by Mark Johnson

In April, Garmin-Cervélo rider and Clif Bar athlete Johan Van Summeren won Paris-Roubaix.

Watching the 6’5”, 174-pound rider solo away from a day-long break, fend off a charging Fabian Cancellara, and ride into the Roubaix velodrome alone—on a flat tire—was one of the most dramatic afternoons in cycling history, let alone this season.
