6 Years of Progress
At Clif Bar & Co., we understand that our health depends on the planet's wellbeing. That's why we're working to reduce our environmental impact in everything we do, from the field to the final product. Our journey began in 2001 with sourcing organic ingredients and we have since expanded our program to include recycled materials for packaging, biodiesel in our company fleet, and a growing climate action program that includes incentives for employees and the development of new wind farms to reduce our carbon footprint. We continue to learn from and share the journey with others.
Here are a few examples of our progress:
- 70% of all ingredients are now organic
- 15,000 Cool Tags™ sold–enough to offset 4,500,000 miles of driving
- B100 biodiesel fuel is now used for 20,000 miles of inter-company shipping
- 13,000 trees planted with American Forests
- 3 wind turbines up and running thanks to our partnership with NativeEnergy.
Biodiesel
Wrapper Brigade: Recycle, Reuse, Refashion
We’ve teamed up with TerraCycle to reduce the number of energy bar wrappers ending up in the landfill, and to educate kids and others about the benefits of reusing waste materials. The Wrapper Brigade program allows schools, offices, community organizations, and even individuals to earn money for charity by collecting used wrappers.
To encourage people to collect as many wrappers as possible, sign-up is free, as are shipping costs. For every wrapper the Brigade receives, they will donate 2 cents to a nonprofit of the collector’s choice. The wrappers then will be woven into strong material, and made into eco-chic products.
