It’s true: we love talking about our food. And we love to get questions from the people who eat it. Here are some of our favorites. If there’s something you want to know and it’s not covered here, just ask. We’ll do our best to get you an answer.
LUNA is the first nutrition bar specially formulated with a woman’s needs in mind to help nourish them throughout their busy day and lives. LUNA provides the nutrients women often lack, like folic acid, calcium, iron, vitamin D and other vitamins and minerals, which are essential to a woman’s everyday needs, while being as organic as possible.
To address all of your allergen-related questions, please view our complete Allergen Reference Table.
LUNA is certified kosher by Kof-K.
Clif Bar & Company is committed to sourcing ingredients that are not genetically engineered in all of our products. We have stringent protocols for GMOs which includes requiring affidavits from ingredient suppliers demonstrating they can meet our non GMO requirements.
LUNA contributes to the Clif Bar Family Foundation, which donates 1% of all product revenue to organizations that support and improve environmental, social and cultural needs, from our local to our global community. The Breast Cancer Fund is one of the primary organizations to which we donate.
Because LUNA is formulated with adult needs in mind, kids should not eat a whole bar until their nutritional needs more closely match those of an adult (around ages 9-13). Kids ages 4-9 could have half on occasion and as with all food choices, parents should use their best judgment. An option for kids to try is our CLIF Kid snack line, which offers CLIF Kid Zbar® and CLIF Kid Zbar Protein®. They are both uniquely designed for the nutritional needs of growing, active kids and tastes great.
Of course! Men, too, can enjoy LUNA. While our bar was originally crafted to include nutrients that are typically missing from a woman’s diet, men can and do enjoy snacking on our delicious, nutritious bars as well. There is nothing in a LUNA bar that is not good for men. In fact, at Clif Bar & Company, we have a favorite saying: “Real Men Eat LUNA.”
LUNA is a delicious snack bar that can help satisfy and curb hunger between meals, or serve as a nutritious addition to a light meal. LUNA is not a meal replacement bar or a diet bar. At LUNA, we believe in maintaining a balanced, active and healthy lifestyle, and encourage our fans to eat positively and without guilt.
Yes, LUNA bars are considered a “low glycemic” food due to the portion size and balance of carbohydrate, fat, protein, fiber. Glycemic Index (GI) can be a great tool for fine-tuning the carbohydrate choices in your meal plan, but it shouldn’t be your exclusive consideration for whether or not to include certain foods in your daily meal plans.
Organic food is good for the body and good for the planet. By using organically grown ingredients, we help keep harmful pesticides and synthetic fertilizers out of the environment and our bodies. It contains zero grams trans fat, partially- hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup; artificial flavors or synthetic preservatives; and we source ingredients that are not genetically engineered.
Each 1.69 oz (48g) LUNA Bar has around 180 calories with 9-10g protein and 3-5g fiber. It is high in calcium, folic acid and iron, a good source of Vitamin D, and rich in antioxidants (vitamins A, C and E). Each bar has 3.5-6g fat and 9-14g sugar depending on the flavor.
At the end of 2014 we started to transition all LUNA flavors to be gluten-free. Our ingredient suppliers have confirmed that all ingredients are gluten-free, to include certified gluten-free oats and tapioca syrup solids, both sourced from our trusted, domestic farm suppliers. The location where we make our food is capable of making a gluten-free food and we test our finished products to confirm that they are gluten-free.
You can tell if your LUNA is gluten-free by looking at the packaging.
