Who needs CLIF® SHOT BLOKS® Electrolyte Chews?

CLIF® SHOT BLOKS® Electrolyte Chews are primarily used by Endurance Athletes—Cyclists, Runners, Mountain Bikers, Triathletes, Adventure Racers, etc. However any performance-oriented athlete needing a quick burst of energy can benefit from CLIF SHOT®.

When should CLIF® SHOT BLOKS® Electrolyte Chews be eaten?

CLIF® SHOT BLOKS® Electrolyte Chews can be eaten 15-30 minutes prior to activity to increase blood sugar levels, and then every 20-30 minutes during activity to maintain energy levels. Keep in mind that Bloks will affect your blood sugar levels more slowly than gel since they are semi-solid. Always follow up with a mouthful of water.

How should I eat CLIF® SHOT BLOKS® Electrolyte Chews, compared to CLIF SHOT® Energy Gel?

CLIF SHOT® Energy Gel and CLIF® SHOT BLOKS® Electrolyte Chews are easily interchangeable since they both provide carbohydrate to working muscles. Since 3 SHOT BLOKS pieces equal the same calories as one SHOT Energy Gel packet you can go back and forth between each, while easily keeping track of your calorie intake.

Do any of the CLIF® SHOT BLOKS® chews contain caffeine?

Yes; Black Cherry, Cola, and Orange, each contain 50mg, 50mg, and 25mg of caffeine per serving respectively. Keep in mind there are 2 servings per packet.

Do CLIF SHOT BLOKS® chews contain electrolytes?

Yes; all of the SHOT BLOKS® chews contain at least 70 mg of Sodium and 20mg of Potassium per serving (3 pieces); Margarita contains 210 mg of sodium in a serving—three times the amount found in the other flavors.

Why does Margarita have 3 times the sodium of other Bloks flavors?

Sodium depletion via sweat is the primary reason for muscle cramping in athletes. We've added 3 times the amount of sodium to Margarita for those athletes who have either higher than average sweat rates, or have higher than average concentrations of sodium in their sweat.

What is Real Salt™ and why is it being added to Margarita Bloks?

Real Salt is a leading brand of sea salt that retains more than 50 trace minerals as a result of minimal processing. It also provides incredible taste. Truly, all salt is NOT created equal!

What are the tiny specs in Margarita Bloks?

Why aren’t there any vitamins in CLIF® SHOT BLOKS® Electrolyte Chews?

The primary purpose of CLIF® SHOT BLOKS® is to deliver what an athlete needs and can actually use during his/her training and racing—carbohydrate and electrolytes. While vitamins and amino acids are critical to daily well being, studies continually show that there is no performance benefit to consuming these nutrients during activity.

Why isn’t there any protein in CLIF® SHOT BLOKS® chews?

For the same reason that we do not add protein to SHOT Energy Gel, well-designed studies have not been able to prove that consuming protein during activity has any performance benefits beyond consuming adequate carbohydrate. Furthermore, consuming protein during activity may actually hurt performance by displacing carbohydrate, slowing carbohydrate digestion, and causing digestive distress.

Do CLIF® SHOT BLOKS® chews contain gluten?

No, SHOT BLOKS® chews do not contain gluten.

Can CLIF® SHOT BLOKS® Electrolyte Chews be used in the cold weather?

We product tested CLIF® SHOT BLOKS® Electrolyte Chews during the winter ski and snowboard season and the product gets a little firmer, but does not freeze.

Are CLIF® SHOT BLOKS® Electrolyte Chews kosher?

No; SHOT BLOKS® Electrolyte Chews are not certified kosher at this time.
