| | What are the products in the Clif Kid line? |
Clif Kid snacks deliver on 3 key areas of parental concern:
• Fruit
• Product: Clif Kid Organic Twisted Fruit real fruit rope
• Kids need 2-4 servings of fruit/day as an important source of many nutrients. Each Organic Twisted Fruit rope qualifies as 1 serving of fruit.
• Hydration
• Product: Clif Kid Splashers Drink Mix
• Dehydration leads to low energy and fatigue. Flavored drinks encourage kids to drink almost twice as much as water alone; Splashers has 1/2 the sugar of apple juice, plus electrolytes help maintain hydration.
• Whole Grains
• Product: Clif Kid Organic ZBaR energy bar
• An excellent source of complex carbohydrates, valuable antioxidants and fiber; they fill kids up and help them avoid energy spikes and the crashes that follow
| | What makes Clif Kid different than other kid’s snacks? |
Clif Kid snacks:
• Offer lower fat and sugar levels than those found in many of the kids’ snack offerings available today.
• Use organic and only natural ingredients, while still delivering the taste, flavors and fun kids demand.
• Were created to help parents provide their kids with organic snacks to nourish kids as they are on the move, competing in sports, studying or playing with friends.
| | Why organic? |
Because it’s better for you and the planet. At Clif Bar, we’ve always been about nourishing healthy people with great food—and we’re constantly looking for ways to make great food even better. That’s one reason we’ve made the move to certified organic ingredients.
Organically-grown ingredients preserve the nutritional value of food, and they’re free of the nasty stuff that often finds its way into food these days: residues from toxic pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. Furthermore, by keeping toxins out of ecosystems, it protects our air, water, soil and wildlife.
| | What are whole grains and their benefits? |
Whole grains such as oats contain fiber, which when consumed as part of a healthy diet can reduce the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and weight gain. The 2005 USDA Dietary Guidelines recommend choosing the right carbohydrates, like whole grains. Each CLIF ZBaR contains 7 grams of whole grains and 3 grams of total fiber from oats, which is as many whole grains as found in ¼ cup brown rice or cooked barley and twice the fiber.
| | Tell me about the sugar levels in Clif Kid products? |
Clif Kid snacks give kids in motion a choice of snacks with the nutrition and energy they need and a taste they really like. Our goal was to energize them with an appropriate balance of sugar and other nutrients as a way of encouraging them to lead active lives.
ZBaR was the first product designed to contain less than 35% of its total weight in sugar to comply with the sugar intake standard for foods available in the California school system set by State Senate Bill 12. And when compared to other treats that appeal to kids such as candy, cookies, soda, and sweets, ZBaR contains less-processed sugars, lower total sugar, and no high fructose corn syrup, a sweetener found in many other kids’ sweets that has been associated with obesity.
Organic Twisted Fruit contains 9g of sugar, which is the naturally occurring fruit sugar from the fruit puree and juice ingredients. We do not add any other sugars to the product.
| | Can a child eat two Clif Kid snacks in the same day? |
Yes. The fortification levels in Clif Kid snacks allow for kids to eat two in a day and not be over the 100% RDA for these vitamins and minerals.
| | Can my toddler eat Clif Kid snacks? |
Clif Kid snacks are great for kids 3 years and older. For children under 3, parents should use their best judgment given the introduction of so many new foods at this age.
