Food: Our Favorite Subject
It’s true: we love talking about our food. And we love to get questions from the people who eat it. Here are some of our favorites. If there’s something you want to know and it’s not covered here, just ask. We’ll do our best to get you an answer.
What is LUNA®?
LUNA is the first nutrition bar specially formulated with a woman’s needs in mind to help nourish them throughout their busy day and lives. LUNA provides the nutrients women often lack, like folic acid, calcium, iron, vitamin D and other vitamins and minerals, which are essential to a woman’s everyday needs, while being as organic as possible.
What is the nutritional profile of a LUNA Bar?
Each 1.69 oz (48g) LUNA Bar has around 180 calories with 9-10g protein and 3-5g fiber. It is high in calcium, folic acid and iron, a good source of Vitamin D, and rich in antioxidants (vitamins A, C and E). Each bar has 3.5-6g fat and 9-14g sugar depending on the flavor.
Why is LUNA made with organic ingredients?
Organic food is good for the body and good for the planet. By using organically grown ingredients, we help keep harmful pesticides and synthetic fertilizers out of the environment and our bodies. It is free of trans fats, hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup; artificial sweeteners, flavors or preservatives; and ingredients sourced from GMOs.
Is LUNA low-GI?
Yes, LUNA bars are considered a “low glycemic” food due to the portion size and balance of carbohydrate, fat, protein, fiber. Glycemic Index (GI) can be a great tool for fine-tuning the carbohydrate choices in your meal plan, but it shouldn’t be your exclusive consideration for whether or not to include certain foods in your daily meal plans.
Is LUNA a meal replacement bar?
LUNA is not a meal replacement bar or a diet bar. LUNA is an organic nutrition bar which provides the nutrition women need to maintain active, healthy lives. It is a delicious, nutritious and convenient snack that satisfies and curbs hunger between meals, helping to prevent high calorie/high fat snack cravings such as potato chips or candy bars.
Is LUNA appropriate for men to eat?
Men, too, can enjoy LUNA. There is nothing in a LUNA bar that is not good for men. However, LUNA bars are specifically formulated to provide women with the nutrients they often lack.
Is LUNA appropriate for kids to eat?
Because LUNA is formulated with adult needs in mind, kids should not eat a whole bar until their nutritional needs more closely match those of an adult (around ages 9-13). Kids ages 4-9 could have half on occasion and as with all food choices, parents should use their best judgment. An option for kids to try is our CLIF Kid snack line, which offers CLIF Kid Zbar™ and CLIF Kid Zbar Cripsy™. They are both uniquely designed for the nutritional needs of growing, active kids and tastes great.
Does a portion of LUNA sales go to the Breast Cancer Fund?
LUNA contributes to the Clif Bar Family Foundation, which donates 1% of all product revenue to organizations that support and improve environmental, social and cultural needs, from our local to our global community. The Breast Cancer Fund is one of the primary organizations to which we donate.
Does LUNA contain GMOs or bioengineered ingredients?
