Sean B.

Pace Team Leader

Sean is very excited to start his rookie season with the Clif Bar Pace Team. An American government teacher at a high school near Cleveland, Ohio, he has a passion for helping others achieve to their potential and feels strongly that his passion for teaching transfers seamlessly into pacing. Sean notes that “there is no better feeling for an educator than when you create an environment in which your students experience success. There is no better feeling for a pacer than when you help your fellow runners reach their goals.”

Sean grew up in the Sandusky, Ohio area and now resides in Parma, OH where he serves as President of City Council. He, his wife, Deena, and his children, Colleen and Patrick, describe themselves as Disney fanatics, visiting about three times a year. Sean has completed more than 26 marathons, and his pacing experience to date includes the Akron, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Buffalo marathons. When he is not running during his free time, he enjoys watching his kids’ sporting events, memorizing the dialogue from Seinfeld episodes and watching reruns of Saturday Night Live.

Michelle S.

Pace Team Leader

Michelle has completed more than 23 marathons and has been pacing for local races in Minnesota for the past four years. She is thrilled to start her rookie year with the Clif Bar Pace Team and to continue sharing her philosophy of running: it should be social, fun, and include helping others achieve their goals, whatever that may be.

Michelle grew up in Portland, Oregon, and is a West Coast native who loves the beach and ocean. Now that she lives in Minnesota (the land of 10,000 lakes) she enjoys water sports and boating with her family. She is married with three college-age children striving to achieve their own dreams; in fact, her son completed the Twin Cities Marathon with her at age 14 and was the youngest runner in the field.

When not at work or training for marathons, Michelle cross-trains by taking fitness classes and counts strength training and spin classes among her favorites. She loves to cycle in the summer and belongs to a local cycling club that makes good use of Minnesota’s miles of beautiful trails.

Andy N.

Pace Team Leader

Andy is excited to join the Clif Bar Pace Team for his rookie year. He has run more than 40 marathons, plus one ultramarathon and one Ironman Triathlon. He comes to us from the running-friendly city of Austin, Texas, where he lives with his wife Jenn and their herd of cats. When not running, he works as a Software Engineer, tackles home improvement projects, attempts to cook healthy meals, and -- as a result -- eats a steady diet of Taco Bell.

Jackie R.

Pace Team Leader

Jackie’s top two passions, in random order, are running and watching people defy their goals - something she gets to do every day working for Back on My Feet, a national nonprofit that uses running to build strength, confidence and self-esteem in the homeless and recovering populations. Whether for fun, or for her life's work, running is in her blood. She has completed over fifteen marathons, one with the assistance of the Clif Bar Pace Team, who undoubtedly was responsible for her sub 3 hour finish. Though not new the world of pacing, she is thrilled to join the Clif Bar Pace Team for her first year to return the favor and support fellow runners in their pursuit of greatness.

She runs the streets of Baltimore, MD every morning with her husband and fellow marathoner Patrick, as well as her puppy and aspiring marathoner Bernie. In the few hours of the day she might not be running, it is possible she is either biking or swimming - training for her debut in the world of triathlons, studying to finish her Master's in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, swing dancing, or cultivating her palate to fit in with Baltimore's finest foodies.

Wayne L.

Pace Team Leader

Wayne is a finisher of over 35 marathons, and although he is new to the Clif Bar Pace Team this year, he has an established presence in the Southern California marathon pacing circuit over the last several years and has paced many of the major races in the state including San Diego Rock and Roll, Surf City, and San Francisco. He is originally from San Diego but now lives in Santa Clarita. Wayne spends most of his free time as an a coach for the Santa Clarita Storm Track Club, helping young kids in cross country and track and field, as well as coaching the Storm's marathon training program for at-risk high school students. Wayne believes anybody can be successful at running and is excited to help you with coaching advice, or just providing positive motivation to help you meet your goals.

Joe B.

Pace Team Leader

Joe, having run more than 30 marathons, is thrilled to start his rookie year on the Clif Bar Pace Team. Born and bred in the Midwest, Joe currently resides in NYC after relocating 3 years ago for work. He is the Regional Sales Director for Addepar Inc., a Silicon Valley technology firm servicing the Wealth Management sector, and his company’s core fundamentals include "Health and Fitness" which allow him to enjoy workouts with fellow employees throughout the work week. Joe is a 5-time Ironman finisher and former Big Ten Champion Football player.

When not running or working, Joe spends his time trying out new restaurants in the city, catching shows on Broadway, and doing his best to pick up surfing! He enjoys traveling to see family and friends and is the youngest uncle to 11 nieces and nephews. Joe joins big brother Matt on the Clif Bar Pace Team this year.

Diane B.

Pace Team Leader

Diane is excited about her rookie year with the Clif Bar Pace Team! She grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and also spent 18 years in Chicago before moving to Orange County six years ago. Diane started running marathons at the age of 39 and has since completed more than 70 in many states, as well as a 50K. Three years ago, she decided to train for a triathlon, and since then has completed two full Ironmans. She is currently training for her third, with long term goals of completing more Ironman races as well as ultramarathons.

Diane’s passion for running and exercise led her to receive a degree in Physical Education and also to become a certified running coach; being able to help people train and reach their goals is what excites her most about coaching and pacing. When not training or coaching, Diane spends time with her husband of 24 years, her daughter (21), and son (20). Both are in college in Southern California.

Diane

Pace Team Leader

Diane is excited to be starting her second year on the Clif Bar Pace Team and is looking forward to the year ahead. Having run more than 30 marathons, including two Bostons, Diane considers running not only a hobby but a lifestyle, as well as her emotional and physical therapy. Running has changed her life in many ways, and makes her a better person in all facets of her life.

Diane discovered pacing as a way to help fellow runners accomplish their goals. Knowing that running 13.1 or 26.2 miles is as much a mental challenge as it is a physical challenge, Diane feels honored and privileged to not only help runners accomplish their goal time but to be there as an emotional coach and cheerleader too. There is nothing more rewarding for her than crossing the finish line with a runner and hearing those words: “I could not have done that without you.”

Diane was born and raised in central PA, and now lives with her boyfriend and best friend Tucker in Ocean City, MD. When she’s not running, she is a Director of Revenue Management for Clear Channel Media & Entertainment. Diane is also a proud member of the Ocean City Running Club and works part time for OC Tri Running helping with local eastern shore running events.

Kyle

Pace Team Leader

Kyle, a runner of 50 marathons and counting, could not wait to become a member of the Clif Bar Pace team. Born, and raised in Cincinnati, OH. Kyle spent three years in the running mecca of Flagstaff, AZ, but still calls Cincinnati home.

His passion for the sport filters through all aspects of his life whether it is running his own 100 mile ultramarathon, helping to plan a local favorite race, crewing friends in other ultras or coaching family and friends through their own running goals. You can always count on Kyle to have a smile, good sense of humor and never take himself too seriously. Outside of running there is nothing more important to Kyle than spending time his wife Paula and two girls Isabel (7) and Julia (2).

Harvey

Pace Team Leader

Harvey says he views each marathon as a great adventure! He’s thrilled to have the honor to pace runners and finds inspiration in their stories. He enjoys running for the sheer exhilaration, the camaraderie, the scenery of new sites, and perhaps most of all the giant all you can eat buffet the day before the race.

Harvey has run a marathon each year for 23 years. He took 5 years to break the 5 hour barrier and 17 years to qualify for Boston. He learned a lot over those years and whatever your goal, he’s interested in helping you there. His current PR is 2:48 but he’s not done trying to get faster.

When not teaching High School in his hometown of Cincinnati, you might find Harvey taking runners on guided excursions in far away lands. He’s run on every continent and over 70 countries. According to Harvey, running is one of the best ways to see the world!

Mike S.

Pace Team Leader

Hailing from Akron, OH, Mike is one of our fastest pacers, seen exclusively at 3:00 at Philadelphia and 3:05 at the rest of our races. He’s excited to be starting his fourth year with the team, and loves reigning in that speed to help others to their goal finishes.

In his spare time, he’s actually a patent lawyer with a penchant for junk food – the sweet kind. If it’s a candy, he’s had it, and he’ll be all too willing to talk to you about it. Zots, Lemonheads, Skittles, or Starbursts, he’s never met a candy he doesn’t like.

Jo

Pace Team Leader

Jo joined the Clif Bar Pace Team in 2006 and is now just a few marathons shy of reaching #100. While Jo brags about having the lowest weekly running miles among the pace leaders, that doesn't mean he isn't out getting his fitness on. A 10-time Ironman and hard-core cyclist when not marathoning, Jo has cycled across the U.S., the length of Japan, and from Canada to Mexico. Before he started running, Jo was a competitive bodybuilder and placed 5th in tri-state competition. He also broke the collegiate sit-up record with 5,700 in 24 hours.

Jo grew up in New York but needed bigger mountains and better weather so he packed up and headed out west. He currently resides in Los Angeles at the foothills of the Santa Monica mountains and considers himself a true So Cal boy (without the surfboard).

Sharon

Pace Team Leader

Sharon joined the team in 2003 with 18 marathons and will run her 100th marathon in 2012. Despite having broken her arm six weeks earlier, she set a 3-minute personal best at the 2011 Ironman World Triathlon Championship in Kona, Hawaii, her third Ironman. That’s almost as exciting as the time she ran a half marathon in a Guatemalan jungle where the spectators threw lit firecrackers at the runners, or past armed guards on a highway at 13,000 foot elevation in La Paz, Bolivia.

Sharon brings an upbeat approach to helping everyday runners reach their marathon goals. A military veteran (specialty: comedy cadence-calling) and former Peace Corps volunteer to Bolivia, Sharon is a public radio journalist who lives in Pasadena with her husband, Dave, a stand-up comic, and their dog Rosie.

She is lucky enough to “live, work and play” with running, as she splits her professional time between Clif Bar and serving as the Registration Coordinator for the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Columbus Marathon. Star is also an accomplished ultrarunner, having completed ten 100-mile races and placed third in the USATF National Championship for the Trail 100 Miler twice.

When not running or working, she can be found baking, volunteering, teaching Sunday School, seeking out rich red wines with heavy tannins and quoting “The Big Bang Theory” at random intervals. Scott has done some impressive running over the years: He qualified for Boston (at his first marathon, some still hate him for that!), has covered the Boston course 10 times, and has run sub-3 hours (2:58 at Air Force, 2006).

A lifelong Ohio resident, Scott enjoys spending time with his wife Traci and their pets, cats Midnight and Lola and dog Crystal. Jack started running marathons relatively late in life, running his first official marathon at age 38. Jack was a 3 time all state sprinter and jumper in high school but always enjoyed distance running and found himself drawn to the camaraderie distance runners shared. Jack wants to help everyone to experience the joy of running that he has for the past 42 or so years.

When not pacing, Jack coaches youth baseball and shuttles his son between baseball and lacrosse. Jack's oldest daughter, Stephanie, is getting married this May. His twin daughters, Courtney and Allie, are juniors in college and his son Cullen is a sophomore in high school. Occasionally, Jack even finds time to spend a few minutes with his very supportive wife Jean.

Chris

Pace Team Leader

With nearly 100 marathons under his belt, Chris likes to brag that he’s gone ahead and made a lot of running mistakes so you don't have to! He’s paced more than 30 marathons in the 7 seasons he’s been on the Clif Bar Pace Team, yet his proudest running accomplishment is convincing his wife to complete her own first marathon this year.
Next on his agenda – getting his 10 year old and 4 year old daughters into endurance running as well, since you're never too young (or too old) to get started. And of course, Go Steelers!

Bill

Pace Team Leader

Bill has successfully paced with the Clif Bar Pace Team for more than 7 years. Even better—Bill knows how to make you laugh while he’s doing it. With infectious energy and an offbeat sense of humor (“as a special incentive to run with me, all marathoners in my group will receive complimentary water several times along the course”), Bill will keep you energized, motivated and enjoying every step of your 26.2 mile journey. Bill is well aware that a town called “Boston” is calling many of you—and he is excited to get his groups to Boston, PR’s and just plain fun marathon runs as a member of the Clif Bar Pace Team.

As a happily married father of three active children in Elmhurst (Illinois) running is both social and spiritually renewing. Employment at a prestigious children's museum helps cover the ever increasing family race entry fees and various endeavors.
