This past weekend we headed up to Minden, Nevada for the Master’s District Crit Championships.

By now you’re well aware that Dave Zabriskie went down in the Team Time Trial at the Tour on Tuesday morning. My stomach twisted as I watched Dave hit the ground, his chances of spending more time in yellow sliding away alongside him. Ouch, in so many ways.

Dave and the CSC squad were on their way to posting the best time of the day when something happened – a touch of wheels, a bump of the fence, whatever it was it was bad and down went Dave. Man, bike racing can be brutal.

Just got back from the USA Cycling Masters National Criterium Championships in Deer Park, Utah. The trip part was great - the area around Salt Lake City is beautiful.
Friday night some team mates and I drove up to Deer Park to pick up our reg packets. That’s when we saw the new "crit" course. Wasn’t quite what we’d hoped to find. A short, hilly course at over 7000 feet spells trouble for a good number of us big dudes who live for the bunch sprints.

Dave Zabriskie is a local transplant, originally from SLC.  My teammate Jeff raced with Dave when Dave was just a wee little tyke coming up through the ranks of the SLC bike racing scene.  A lot of folks recognized that Dave had some very legit cycling skills even back then.
