Corbin, Kessler go 1-2 at Ironman Coeur d’Alene

A few weeks back Team Clif Bar triathlete Meredith Kessler sent an email asking for some bars and BLOKS to help her prep for Ironman Coeur d'Alene. Knowing that both she and fellow TCB pro Linsey Corbin would be racing in Idaho, I issued a challenge: "You guys will have to finish 1-2 or we will be forced cut you both from the program." We play hardball here in the TCB pod.

Linsey Corbin

I was joking. Sort of. But, I also knew that Linsey and Meredith had been racing extremely well, and if both had good days they could end up standing on the podium together. Well, Meredith crushed the swim and had an overall terrific race, while Linsey swam conservatively and then ran like Steve Austin to pass about 4,000 people in the marathon. Linsey ended up taking her first Ironman win, and in the process set a new course record at 9:17:54! Meredith continued her stellar rookie pro season finishing in second, a mere five minutes off Linsey's insanely quick time. Apparently Matt over at Purple Patch Fitness knows what he's doing, because these girls are absolutely killing it in 2010. Although both athletes raced in summer heat against top-notch competition, it's likely the most brutal part of the day for Linsey was when she headed over to the Moose Lounge Triathlete Tailgate party for a celebratory pint, only to find out that her Linsey Corbin beer from Big Sky Brewing had already sold out. These are the types of situations that professional athletes are trained to deal with, however, and Linsey handled it well. Nobody got hurt. Badly. Beer or no beer, though, this was truly an awesome effort from both Linsey and Meredith, and it makes us feel super proud to be involved with quality people who also happen to be great athletes. Congrats to both of you guys! Keep up the great work! Perhaps another challenge will be in the cards for Kona in October?
