- Summer Solstice Stoke
Eric Porter is a guy who likes to ride bikes. In fact he likes to ride so much, that he spent his entire Summer Solstice getting after it in the mountains all around Utah.
Like many of us, Eric likes to ride all kinds of bikes and on this extra long day he put together quite the bike adventure scramble for all those crazy enough to join the fun. Check out Eric’s account from the day below, and remember that even though the Solstice has come and gone, we still have some of the longest days of summer lingering in our midst to get out and create some awesomeness of our own.
Thanks for the inspiration Eric. You’re doing it right!
June 21 is Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year and in my mind, the only logical thing to do on the longest day of the year is to ride every minute of it! White Pine Touring in Park City has an annual Solstice ride where they ride xc all day long, which is where I got the idea. However I like to split my time between all disciplines of MTB, so I took their plan and modified it a bit.
Some friends and I started out yesterday at White Pine riding at 5:00am with the group, pre-dawn. As we were climbing into the mountains the sun eventually popped out and warmed us up. A 3 hour xc loop was a great way to start the day. And after that warm up, we grabbed our DH bikes and headed out for a few laps on some of the trails around Empire Pass. The best part about this section of the day was riding free public transportation to shuttle downhill runs!!
Next stop was the new community bike park, Trailside Park. It's a really fun berm/jump trail and we ran into a bunch of friends out there having some fun of their own.
Next stop was at the dirt jumps. This is one of my favorite places to ride! You basically feel like you are floating through the air. It’s just so smooth and fun!
After that we headed to Sundance resort for some lift access runs. Not only is it one of the most beautiful places I've ever been, but the single track is superb! We finished up the day with a quick ride around town with my wife and son followed by a sunset pumptrack session at the house and a homebrew beer to cap it off. Here are a few photos from the day, and a video will be coming soon!
No doubt that a day like this wouldn't have been possible without large quantities of CLIF SHOT ROKS, Gels, BLOKS and other delicious Clif Bar products to keep me and the Solstice dream alive! Big thanks Clif for feeding my Solstice stoke.
