It's been a nice early-season weekend full of good stuff thanks to a number of the Team CLIF BAR athletes.
While Troy & Todd Wells hunker down in Tucson to hone in their foosball skills for the 2011 TCB Foosball Invitational, other athletes were also preparing for the upcoming season. Some, with their seasons already kicked into gear, were even winning things - in January! Crazy, huh? Friday through Sunday, the TCB Elite Cycling squad gathered down in the south bay for a pre-season camp. Rides, meetings, eating & some team bonding was the gist of it. Four new riders join the mix for 2011, so it was great to get everyone together in one spot and do a little pre-season planning. Here's a quick vid that the fellas put together:
Then over the weekend in Australia, the Garmin-Cervelo team went out and won the Tour Down Under. How rad is that? Cam Meyer (who won his first pro race ever when he won stage 4 of the race on Friday) ended up winning the whole shebang on Sunday. The team worked hard neutralizing available time bonuses on the final stage to help Cam claim the overall by just 2 seconds. Cam had this to say: "I'm over the moon and thanks so much to my teammates - I wouldn't have finished like this without them...I can't wait to celebrate with [my teammates]; it's a great way to start the season!" Yup - we agree - winning the Tour Down Under is certainly a fine way to get 2011 rolling. Nice job fellas!
Come Sunday, down in San Diego folks from the endurance sports world gathered to recognize those who had remarkable 2010 seasons at the Endurance LIVE Awards Gala. It was quite a night, with all sorts of interesting stories shared about noteworthy achievements. Definitely inspiring stuff. Chris McCormack, Team CLIF BAR Triathlete extraordinaire, was on hand to accept the award for 'Competitor of the Year' at the Endurance LIVE Gala. Here's a quick clip of Chris speaking with Bob after the ceremony:
It's been quite a weekend for Team CLIF BAR. We're looking forward to seeing how the rest of the season unfolds - and to see the Wells brothers' new-found foosball skills. 2011 is certain to be another exciting one!
