The finale of the North Face Endurance Challenge was held near Clif HQ this past weekend. This race is the US Ultra Championship and lures a stacked field with large cash purses and the ultimate bragging rights. With over 10,000 feet of elevation gain distributed over 50 miles of rugged coastal terrain, the constantly-undulating course can be treacherous if it’s wet.
Fortunately, Saturday turned out to be a beautiful Northern California day - clear and cool - perfect for running 50 miles in the scenic Marin Headlands. It was a great day for Team Clif Bar athletes as three Montrail runners ended up on the podium. Ultra running Wunderkind Dakota Jones took second after an all day battle with winner Mike Wolfe. A nice early birthday present for Dakota who turns 21 this week (Happy Birthday!).
In the women’s race, TCB runners Ellie Greenwood and Joelle Vaught ran fantastic races to finish 2nd and 3rd, respectively. The nice weather, clean course conditions and a slightly modified route led to very fast finishing times. It was a super-competitive race in all fields, so congratulations goes out to all the finishers!
