Lila Lapanja entered the world by (snow) storm. Born during a Sierra Nevada blizzard at Lake Tahoe, Lila was on a pair of skis by the age of two and competitively racing by six at her hometown mountain of Diamond Peak in Incline Village, NV. A dual citizen of the USA and Slovenia, her racing skills were cultivated by her father and coach, who skied for the Slovenian National Team before racing for Sierra Nevada College, where Lila is also now a student.
Lila is committed to seeking excellence in her skiing and her life as she continues to gain momentum into the 2022 Olympic Games. A two-time North America Cup Champion who was named to the U.S. Ski Team at the age of 16, Lila made her racing debut on the World Cup circuit in 2015, holds a National Junior Title in Slalom and has stood on seven U.S. National Championship podiums. Whether chasing a World Cup podium or cultivating her passions outside of racing, Lila embraces challenge with focus, grace and determination.
LILA LAPANJA BY THE NUMBERS
I have great passion for the environment and am an ambassador for the Snow Leopard Trust to champion my favorite animal, the snow leopard. I am also an amateur ping-pong enthusiast and a life-long devotee to learning languages, especially German and Slovene.
Why Alpine Skiing:
I love doing an individual sport that allows me to be outside in nature. Ski Racing is the relationship between a mountain, a course, a clock and me. Simple, challenging and gets my heart racing.
