Sofia Gomez Villafane

Heber City, UT

Sofia was born and raised in the Argentine Patagonia but moved to the United States when she was 12. She discovered mountain biking through the Nor Cal High School Mountain Bike Program and then went on to compete at the collegiate level for Fort Lewis College where she received a Bachelor’s in Exercise Science and a minor in Business Administration. Sofia currently lives in Heber City, UT training to qualify for Tokyo 2020 and working part time for a bean-to-bar chocolate company. Aside from riding and racing her bike, she enjoys taking her dog on hikes, riding her dirt bike, and spending time on nordic and alpine skis.

What was your relationship with school as a child?

I have always loved school and learning. I remember in Argentina my dad would ask if we wanted to be taken out of the afternoon session of school to go skiing and I would always declined because I did not want to miss the English lectures that happened in the afternoon. Or when my mom had to come spend half of the year to help with our green cards, I would not even skip the afternoon session of school to go to the airport to say goodbye! I am the black sheep of my family when it comes to school.

What is your favorite food?

I love chocolate so much that I hold a part time job at a small bean-to-bar chocolate company in Utah that comes with free chocolate perk!
