Employee Profile: Christian, Sous Chef
Title: Sous Chef
Hire Date: 8/27/2018
How would you describe what you do to someone who knows nothing about Clif Bar or your role?
As a sous chef at Kali’s and Rifugio, I get to make exciting, nutritious, inventive meals with world class organic ingredients. This is very similar to the work of my colleagues in the office who source, distribute, and sell inventive food products with world class organic ingredients. I really appreciate that the same expectations in our kitchen extend to the office and vice versa.
What do you love most about working at Clif Bar?
The ability to be myself. The ability to let my creativity flow while at the same time having people really appreciate what we do as a culinary team.
What are your interests and passions outside of work?
My interests in life are for the most part all culinary related, from farming, fishing to hunting, most of my passions in life end up on a plate.
What is one of your most memorable food experiences?
I will never forget a trip to the Maine coast I took when I was younger… It was the first time I tried truly fresh seafood. I had to have been around 10 years old… We had fresh lobster, sword fish, oysters… Those flavors still linger with me today.
What is one of your most memorable Holiday food experiences?
I will never forget the smell of the house during the holidays, from roast meats to cookies the house would always be filled with great smells for a week. As we begin to produce more on our family farm, we have begun the tradition of giving our family preserves and pickles of heirloom varieties from our summer hoop house.
What is one of your most memorable Holiday memories?
One of my fondest memories of the holidays was expecting my mom to stay in the field (she was in the Army) for Christmas and her surprising me at school right before we went on holiday. I think it’s a constant reminder of where my family has come from and how much we have to be thankful for during these times of uncertainty.
