Our commitment to zero waste means rethinking and reimagining the way we do business, and we welcome the challenge.
Our journey toward zero waste—and sustainability in general—began on Earth Day 2001. It wasn’t long before employees suggested all kinds of creative ideas to reduce and divert waste from landfills. This led to a formal commitment to Zero Waste and efforts to adopt systems that close material loops: redesign, reduce, reuse, recycle, and compost.
Our Zero Waste Goal for our Facilities
Our goal is to divert 90% or more of our waste from landfills and incinerators at our bakeries, distribution centers, and headquarters.
We’re excited to share that our bakeries in Idaho and Indiana have already reached this goal and are pursuing zero waste certification.
Designing for Zero Waste in Packaging
Clif Bar & Company has proudly signed the Ellen MacArthur Foundation Global Commitment, pledging to make 100% of our packaging reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2025. We're starting with the iconic CLIF BAR® wrapper, challenging ourselves to create a compostable wrapper. To learn more about our work toward sustainable packaging, please visit Packaging with Purpose.
